In the Fall of 1999, the city of Graz, Arnold's hometown, honored the Austrian Oak with the RING OF HONOR, celebrating Schwarzenegger for the pride and recognition he's brought his hometown through his very successful film and bodybuilding careers as well as his continued work in the global community on behalf of our world's children through the Inner-City Games and Special Olympics. Among many Austrian dignitaries, Arnold was the first actor to receive the Ring and his fans and the city's fathers gave him an enthusiastic welcome worthy of Oscar Night!
In addition, you'll find this clip a rare opportunity to watch Arnold do something you rarely see him do in The States, speak his home language, GERMAN! If you don't have your German/English dictionary handy, Arnold said this about the celebration: "It really is a great honor for me to receive this ring. Graz is the city where I was raised, where I went to school and where I met my first girlfriends. Graz is where I got my inner strength and my education. So this ring is the most precious award I ever got, yet. And I want to thank you so much for it. And thanks to all the people from Graz and all the people who made it to here today. "Thank you so much. I'LL BE BACK!"
Later, when he's asked by a reporter, "What's better: an Oscar or the Ring of Honor?" Arnold replied, "The Ring of Honor is better, more beautiful. It comes from home. The Oscar, you know, there are many Oscars each year. I don't know how many, twenty, maybe thirty? But there are only a small number of Rings of Honor. A very small number!"
