GOVERNOR SCHWARZENEGGER APPOINTS JERRY JOLLY DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE CONTROL

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today appointed Jerry Jolly as director of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

"Jerry has served in every position in the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control in his 28-year career there, providing him with a unique understanding of the issues facing the state and the department," said Governor Schwarzenegger. "I am confident he will provide the leadership and problem-solving approach our state government needs to operate efficiently and effectively, as his service has already demonstrated."

Jolly has served in the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control since 1975 and has been the acting director since 2002. During his tenure, Jolly has served in every position in the department, including four years with the director's executive staff, deputy division chief, chief of internal affairs and training and district administrator. He served as the program manager for the Grant Assistance Program, Every 15 Minutes program, and the federal Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) program through the Office of Traffic Safety. Jolly served also as interim director for the Office of Real Estate Appraisers from 1998 to 2001. Jolly is a member of several law enforcement-related organizations including the FBI National Academy Association and the Governor's Policy Council on Drug and Alcohol Problems.

"I am honored that Governor Schwarzenegger has asked me to continue my service to California in this position," said Jolly. "I look forward to working with him to streamline government and promote a healthy business environment while ensuring the safe licensing and regulation of alcoholic beverages in the state."

Jolly, 51, is from El Dorado Hills, CA. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from California State University, Long Beach. This position requires Senate confirmation. Jolly is registered decline-to-state.

The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is responsible for the licensing and regulation of the manufacture, sale, purchase, possession and transportation of alcoholic beverages within the State of California.
