GOVERNOR SCHWARZENEGGER APPOINTS RANDAL HERNANDEZ APPOINTMENTS SECRETARY

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the appointment of Randal Hernandez as appointments secretary.

"Randal is a tremendous addition to my senior staff," said Governor Schwarzenegger. "I am confident he will bring together a qualified and diverse group of individuals to serve my administration and the people of California."

Since 1999 Hernandez has been with Bank of America, California, first as vice president for government relations and most recently as senior vice president and senior market development manager. Prior to joining Bank of America, he served for five years as chief-of-staff to Long Beach Mayor Beverly O'Neill. From 1993 to 1994, Hernandez was regional affairs manager for Southern California Edison. Prior to that, he served at the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce for four years, first as vice president for government affairs and from 1992 to 1993 as president and CEO.

Hernandez has been active in public service as well, serving in several capacities in state and local government. In 1993 he was appointed to the Military Base Reuse Task Force. He also served as lead staff to the Economic Incentives Task Force of the Governor's Council on California Competitiveness, which issued its report in 1992. He has served as a member of the City of Long Beach Planning Commission as well as a member of the Orange County Business Council. Hernandez is a graduate of the Leadership Long Beach and Leadership Southern California programs offered through the Coro Foundation.

"I am honored that Governor Schwarzenegger has asked me to serve in his administration," said Hernandez. "I look forward to working with him to recruit outstanding individuals into state service."

Hernandez, 44, currently resides in Long Beach. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Masters degree in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach. This position does not require Senate confirmation. He is a Republican.
