September 30th, 2003 SCHWARZENEGGER CAMPAIGN NAMES ‘WE’RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT’ OFFICIAL CAMPAIGN ANTHEM
The Schwarzenegger campaign announced today Twisted Sister’s
“We’re Not Gonna Take It” the official song of Schwarzenegger’s
run for governor.
“"It is a fabulous song, like a theme song for our campaign,”
said Schwarzenegger. “People really connect to it.”
The campaign has used the song to introduce Schwarzenegger at
events since August. Twisted Sister front man Dee Snider has
also agreed to perform the song at an afternoon Schwarzenegger
event in Sacramento on Sunday, October 5.
"I was very inspired by Schwarzenegger,” said Snider. “I've
admired him since his bodybuilding days. He mapped his life's
plan in his book. He said he wanted to become the world's
greatest bodybuilder, become a famous Hollywood actor, become a
millionaire businessman and always planned on going into
politics. He made these goals a reality.”
Twisted Sister, originally from Long Island, NY, got its start
in the early 1980s with lead vocalist Dee Snider, bassist Mark
“The Animal” Mendoza, guitarists Eddie Ojeda and drummer A.J.
Pero. The album Stay Hungry, which features “We’re Not Gonna
Take It” went triple platinum.
Below are the lyrics to the song.
We're not gonna take it
No we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
We've got the right to choose
And there ain't no way we'll lose it
This is our life, this is our song
We'll fight the powers that be just
don't pick our destiny cause
You don't know us, you don't belong
We're not gonna take it
No we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
Oh you're so condescending
Your gall is never ending
We don't want nothin’
Not a thing from you
Your life is trite and jaded
Boring and confiscated
If that's your best
Your best won't do
Oh, oh we're right, yeah
We're free, yeah, we'll fight yeah
You'll see, yeah
We're not gonna take it
No we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
No way
Oh, oh we're right, yeah
We're free, yeah, we'll fight yeah
You'll see, yeah
(repeat chorus)
