CALIFORNIA PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNITY BACKS 57 AND 58

ORANGE, CA – A veritable who’s who of California public safety officials, organizations and associations today pledged their support for Propositions 57 and 58 at an endorsement event with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in Orange, California. Joining the Governor at the Orange County Sheriffs Department Training Facility were representatives from 14 of the state’s largest and most prominent public safety organizations.

“I am proud to accept this endorsement for Propositions 57 and 58 from the men and women of California’s public safety community,” stated Gov. Schwarzenegger. “Public safety is one of the top priorities of my administration. I may have played action heroes in the movies, but they are our real heroes. Each and every day they put their lives on the line so that others may live in peace, security and freedom. We must make sure that they have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively, and that is why we must pass Propositions 57 and 58.”

“The California State Sheriffs Association was formed in 1894 and you almost have to go back that long in history to find a time when Republicans and Democrats worked as closely together in Sacramento as they are today,” stated Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona. “Under the leadership of Governor Schwarzenegger, members of both parties have teamed up to pass Propositions 57 and 58. We are proud to join a long and growing list of people and organizations, both liberal and conservative alike, who are putting aside their differences in support of Propositions 57 and 58.”

“On behalf of the 28,000 men and women of the California State Firefighters Association, I am proud to be here today to pledge our support for Propositions 57 and 58,” stated association president Jeff Sedevic. “Propositions 57 and 58 are vitally important for California to put its fiscal house back in order. I am proud that our Governor is putting his name and reputation on the line in support of these two critical measures.”

“Passage of these two measures is critical to California’s economic recovery,” stated Ron Cottingham, president of the Peace Officers Research Association of California. “As law enforcement officers, we know that when the economy is doing well, crime goes down and people are safer. When people are having tough times, crime goes up. Propositions 57 and 58 are a critical first step in putting our economy back on track. This will help not only our state’s coffers, it will help the millions of Californian families who are working everyday, doing their part to keep our economy moving.”

“I am so proud that our state finally has a governor who understands that he is in office to do the people’s business,” stated Grover Trask, two time past president of California District Attorneys Association. “Passage of Propositions 57 and 58 is the first step in turning California around and it is an important first step.”

Endorsing Propositions 57 and 58 today were the:

  • California State Sheriffs Association
  • California State Firefighters Association

  • California District Attorneys Association
  • Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs
