Arnold writes in his autobiography that he tasted success in the movies first by acting in “Conan The Barbarian”. In fact it was in his earlier film “Stay Hungry” for which he received Golden Globe Award for the Best Debut or Newcomer. After Conan the movie “The Terminator” was also a big hit. After this he went from strength to strength with films like “Commando”, “Predator”, “Raw Deal”, “Red Heat”, “The Running Man”, “Total Recall”. All these films portrayed Arnold in his avatar as the best Action star. Arnold got encouragement to foray into the comedy genre due to his straight-forward and carefree attitude and his innocent side of his persona. With Danny De Vito he starred in the comedy film “Twins” and it was also received with positive responses from the audience. Arnold followed it up with comedy movies like “Kindergarten Cop”, Junior”, Jingle All The Way”. The movie “Last Action Hero”, did not do well in the box office due to the film “Jurassic Park” being released during the same time, “Last Action Hero” took a beating in the box-office. Due to the enormous success of “Terminator 2, Judgment Day” ( directed by James Cameron ), the two of them once again teamed up and shot the movie “True Lies”, which also helped Arnold to bounce back. Arnold followed it up with action films like “End Of Days”, Eraser”, “Batman And Robin”, “Collateral Damage”. About running for Governorship of California, Arnold couldn’t decide whether to run or not. But thinking about it and dreaming and visualizing this decision he decided to go for it. Right before running for Governorship he acted in the film “Terminator 3 Rise Of The Machines”. It took a lot of hard work and toughness and grueling after which he was elected as Governor. He completed two terms. Arnold had outlived his dream because his goals in life from a very young age was to become the best built man of the world and also the most famous superstar of Hollywood. Being the Governor was of course the icing on the cake. Arnold wrote that the career of becoming the Governor of California was the best, greatest and most challenging as well as satisfactory time of his life and career.

Arnold had been born with a defective aorta in his heart. His mother Aurelia also was so. Arnold often persuaded to his mother to rectify this defect through heart surgery but his mother didn’t listen to him. After a check up Arnold was advised to get his heart surgery done.
Arnold writes all these in his latest book that he has always kept his thoughts to himself. When Arnold decided to get the heart surgery done he kept it disclosed. However at the last moment he revealed it to his wife, Maria Shriver. Everyone was worried. The operation was done but it didn’t turn out to be a success. It was in the second time that he had to go through the surgery. It was a bad time for Arnold to recover from the surgery. He hated it in the hospital since he always is very active.
Similarly when Arnold was caught in two minds to run for the gubernatorial election for California he didn’t reveal it till the last moment. But once he decided to go for it he campaigned real hard and was committed 100% for it.When Arnold migrated to America from Austria, President Richard Nixon was the President of America. Arnold heard his speech and immediately decided he would be Republican, since President Nixon was Republican. However Arnold’s wife Maria was from the Kennedy family and therefore was a Democrat. Arnold had been exposed to politics also from his being Chairman of the President Council of Physical Fitness. Even though Maria belonging to Democrats She supported Arnold, who was a Republican throughout his campaign and even after Arnold became the Governor.
Arnold writes that he never discussed politics at home with his family. Each member of his family were free to be whatever they chose. Arnold was treated harshly by his father, Gustav. So Arnold felt that he would never be so strict like his father Gustav had been as a dad. Arnold was and is very protective of his children and very liberal with them. He felt proud to associate in anything that his children enjoyed. Also he writes that after being the Governor he worked a lot on climate control ( and he is still working on it ) and therefore he taught his children to put out the lights and fans whenever his children went out of a room in their house.

Is that Arnold’s mother in the top photograph ? Who is the huge guy with them ? i would really like to know. i was reading about Arnold’s childhood days in his book and he writes how they were afraid of the cold war going out between America and Russia - the two superpowers during that time. Arnold writes that there was no TV in their house and both Meinhard and Arnold would go to the local market to watch TV in a shop staring from outside the shop and watching TV from the glass window of the shop. i watched two videos on YouTube. One was a short 12 minutes documentary with Arnold narrating his life in Austria at his growing up time. The other video was an interview in London in which Arnold talked about how he had come to London to compete in Mr. Universe. It seemed that he was there in a studio to promote his film “The Last Stand”. They were recent interviews. To one of the questions Arnold replied that he was not eligible to run for President of United States since it was forbidden according to America’s Constitution. He was also humble about all his achievements and that he had many successes in varied walks of life. i mean a man from a remote Austrian village to become one of the greatest personality in the history of mankind. He had such great drive and was so hungry to become a great man. He did it entirely by himself despite so much difficulties. He had such hunger for success. He built his career with great precision, dedication, ...such honesty. No man is free from weaknesses and limitations. He accepts this and with great sincerity, hard work, and efforts he built up his life brick-by-brick. He immigrated to America in search for his dream to become the greatest bodybuilder in the world and he had a dream of becoming a great movie star in Hollywood. When he came to America he did bricklaying works, studied business, built his Real Estate business, built his mail-order business. He went from strength to strength. In his book he writes that if his father would not have been harsh on him he wouldn’t have the kind of success that he achieved. One of his most admirable quality he has is his endurance and fighting ability. To come out of every difficulties that came his way. Also his humor and wit does him wonders. He is such a straight-forward person, even being such a high profile personality. Now he has even become a Professor setting up his own University. He loves kids and in most of his films he has been projected as a protector of a kid.

Great pictures of Arnold once again.
i just watched the last part of “T 2 Judgment Day”.  The scene was very touching when Arnold tells Sarah Connor and John Connor that ( after terminating the evil terminator who wanted to terminate John Connor the boy who is to lead the human resistence force when he grows up ) “Now i know why you humans cry”.  It was a statement that really moved me. Arnold was self-terminating himself and they would never see him who had protected both the mother and son against the evil forces. To lose such a selfless friend who wanted nothing in return is of course so heart-wrenching. Earlier in the car chase Arnold had noted tears in John Connor’s eyes after rescuing his mother Sarah Connor from the mental asylum and they both had tears in their eyes, and Arnold asked them “Why is there water in your eyes ?” Since he was a robot Arnold had no emotions. So John Connor had replied “You’ll never know”. But being by their side the terminator-Arnold was learning the ways of the human beings. Arnold played a machine in this movie who had no human feelings. John Connor was teaching Arnold to not kill human beings so when they were in the skynet building they were surrounded from all sides and Arnold fought against the entire police force and still didn’t kill a single police. His brain showed “Human Casualty : Nil”.
i was reading in Arnold’s book about how Arnold came from Austria to Germany and landed in the city of Munich and he described it as the hustling-bustling city. Since Arnold was from a village Thal in Austria he was trying to adopt the way of life in the city. He was absorbing everything he learnt. In Munich he used to work in a gym and that’s how he was making his living and of course he trained his physique too in the gym using the equipments in the morning before anyone came into the gym and at night when everyone went out. He writes that he knew he was going to be a competitor in the bodybuilding championship but he knew little English and therefore had to ask his friends to translate what was written in it. He also writes how he met his childhood idol Reg Park and how he had come to meet Arnold. Arnold writes he was awe struck meeting his idol. In a hall filled with audience Reg Park asked Arnold to speak something to the crowd and Arnold had never spoken in front of an audience. As Arnold said something the crowd applauded and he became very excited. From then on Arnold felt great in front of audiences. Later in his book Arnold writes that in each of the fields of work that he got into like in acting in action films, acting in comedy films, doing business, being a family man, doing restaurant business with “Planet Hollywood”, being Chairman of President’s Council of Health and Physical Fitness, being the Governor, organizing the Special Olympics, organizing the Inner City Games, organizing the “Arnold Classic Bodybuilding Championship, Founding the After-School-All-Stars, working for Climate Control, and of course promoting the health and fitness, Arnold writes that all his activities he had great inspirations from many idols that he had. But during his bodybuilding Arnold had a great inspiration from Reg Park. Arnold even went to Reg Park’s house in South Africa. Arnold writes that Franco Colombu also became his very close friend. He was a powerlifter and both Arnold and Franco were very good buddies working out with weights and machines in the gym and getting help and support from each other. Later of course Arnold was very inspired by his mentor in America in the field of bodybuilding : Joe Weider, who brought him and invited him to America.
